Mutagène Rouge is a useful resource to bring together The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You use it to improve your skills and abilities for Geralt. Unfortunately, red mutagens are among the most difficult to locate in the game. There is a handful of reliable agricultural locations in the game, and certain notable monsters that you can track down which are more likely to drop them.
The best monsters that abandon red mutagen
To receive red mutagen, you must kill monsters and loot their corpses. Red being the rarest of colored mutagens, only a handful of monsters have a chance to drop them, and none of them is child’s play. These are the ones you want to fight who have a chance to drop a red mutagen:
- Devoors
- Alghouls
- Arachas
* Nekkars (warriors)
* Hags
- Ghouls
- NOYEURS
The devourers and the Algoules are the best monsters to hunt if you are looking for red mutagen. The devourers are a little difficult, especially if you forget that they exploded before dying in combat. You can easily find yourself at the explosive end of one of them, and soon you are in poor health, or worse. Alghouls are also difficult because you must use the Axii spell to lower their armor; Otherwise, you cannot damage them.
Arachas, Nekkars (warriors), Hags, Ghouls and Drowners are also decent sources to seek. The drowned are among the worst to have a red mutagen on them, so you may want to avoid looking for them until you reach Skellige. Many of these creatures are less likely to see a red mutagen falling than a devourer or an alghoul, but you can meet them more frequently.
Best places to find Red Mutagen
The monsters you meet during your trip have the chance to drop red mutagen, but you have to find them. They are everywhere The Witcher 3 and you have to do everything to locate them. Here are the best places to find your prey:
The important skellige zones include Redgill and the whale cemetery. You can make the Drowners appear on the Redgill coast by going to the region, killing them, returning to the panel, then by teleporting you anywhere in Velen. After that, go back to the Redgill coast and the drummers should reappear. One of them usually drops a single red mutagen. If they do not reappear, return to one of Velen’s panels, meditate for 24 hours, then try again.
For Velen, you can visit the Toderas village to face a small group of devourers and an Alghoul. You will first want to cut down the devouurs, then face the Alghoul. Unfortunately, this group no longer reappears. You can reliably loot at least one red mutagen, but you will have to continue to find others. You can still locate Arachas south of the Crookback Bog orphanage.
